linux gaming

帖子linux_g@mer 于 2010-06-13 14:10

i successfully installed the latest (lingene 0.3.0) and tried to run a linux game by the name of Diablo II
but i keep getting a pop up asking for the disk or complaining about possible incorrect installation. The funny thing is i am running the latest Diablo II patch
which includes a built in no cd functionality which works flawlessly (except for a bit of latency).

May you upload some snapshots of Diablo II which is running on Longene 0.3?

Have you tried registering your D2 game on battle.net and using their download installer to install D2? From my experience this is the only 100% way to play D2 without a CD, the last patch is kind of hit or miss if it really stops you from needing a CD on both Wine and Windows.

As i said before, Diablo II runs no problem (except for some latency which is why i am here) with normal wine and the new patch includes a no cd functionality as well. It also does not matter whether or not
one installs with or without cd (such as using digital download from blizzard, as i have done both) because the patch automatically updates itself when you connect to bnet (go online for multiplayer).
If you guys have any suggestions of things i could try to help figure this out (like some sort of debugging program or strace) i would be more than willing to post the results as any improvement in the latency
issues with running Diablo II or games like it would great for Linux gaming. :)

From your snapshot, It seems you are login as a normal user to run the Diablo II by su command to root. I think the best way to run windows application is to login as root because non-root user isn't supported currently. Refer to the TodoList:
http://www.longene.org/en/todo_list.php
Permission Non-root user support. undo
You may try it as root.

I have friends with Windows installs that still need the disc to play with the latest patch. They fixed the issue by installing from battle.net download.

Well the run it as root was interesting in that it locked up my whole system when i tried it (twice). So i can't give anyone a screen shot. At least when i run Diablo II as a normal user i don't get a total lockup
that i in no way can get out of except with a hard reset. And as for needing to use a digital download to get this game working, i have never needed to do that, i don't know what windows flavour (win98, winxp, vista or
windows 7) your friends run or why they say that they needed a digital download to get it working but i myself have never had any problems with either cd installs and/or digital download with normal wine and the Diablo II 1.1.3 patch. I guess for this game or games like it, longene still needs some work. In any case if someone has some relevant suggestions like maybe strace or something of the nature i would gladly post the results. :)
